We are a grassroots group of concerned citizens organized to promote responsible solar and other forms of renewable energy, a 501(c)(4) pending IRS approval. We do not view the approval and development of massive rural industrial-scale solar projects and resulting destruction of habitat and farmland as responsible. Destruction of habitat on an industrial scale is not green.
These rural industrial-scale solar projects target areas where land is cheap and the special rezoning permitting process is viewed favorably by out-of-state companies. Once permitted, these projects are often immediately sold to unrelated companies who develop the projects using out-of-state labor, with significantly fewer local economic benefits than initially claimed. Many projects threaten land on or near historic battlefields and other historic properties.
Large-scale industrial solar doesn’t belong on agricultural land and doesn’t belong on or near historic battlefields or areas of historic significance.
